Background: Declan McDonogh has won over 1,200 races after beginning his career in horse racing as a trackwork rider for Dermot Weld. Based in Ireland for the majority of his career, McDonogh is renowned for an association with trainer Kevin Prendergast, notably winning the 2002 Tattersalls Gold Cup atop Rebelline. McDonogh has enjoyed a long and successful career in the saddle after posting his first career win at Navan in 1995 aboard Aines Pet. McDonogh is the son of jumps trainer Des McDonogh, the winner of consecutive Champion Hurdles at Cheltenham in 1978 and 1979. Declan McDonogh hails from County Meath and his minimum riding weight is 120lb. In recent years he has struck up a strong partnership with Joseph O’Brien – son of Aidan. |
