Background:
Having joined The Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Apprentice Jockeys’ School in 2017, Angus Chung then commenced his overseas training in South Australia at the end of 2019. Attached to the stable of trainer Jon O’Connor and beginning race-riding in early 2021, Chung has endured a swift rise with 76 wins from 689 rides at a winning strike rate of 11.1%. Returning to Hong Kong for the 2022/23 season, Chung is indentured to legendary Hong Kong horseman Tony Cruz. He soon opened his Hong Kong account with a first win aboard Quadruple Double and had his apprentice claim reduced to 7lb following his 20th Hong Kong win atop Top Top Tea in 2023. He closed out his debut Hong Kong campaign with 31 wins. Chung returned in 2023/24 to achieve more success, notably 46 wins and a first Tony Cruz Award as the season’s leading homegrown jockey.
