When questioned, rider stated that the instructions were to hold a midfield position from a wide barrier. He said from the 1000M he felt the pace of the event increased which resulted in his mount losing touch with the leading division. He said he was reluctant to place too much pressure on his mount at that point as his mount was stepping up in distance for the event and that may have impacted upon its ability to run out a strong 1650M. He added after being held up for clear running in the early part of the Home Straight his mount was able to finish the race off well. After considering his explanation and the sectional times of the event, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by rider were reasonable in the circumstances - Race 166.

After the 900M was bumped and became unbalanced. After the event, rider stated that his mount was disadvantaged when it lost ground on jumping and that was the main reason for its disappointing performance. After the event, rider reported that his mount was disadvantaged by the pace of the race being run inside of standard time throughout the early stages. After the event, rider reported that after settling back in the field his mount was under pressure from the 600M and in the Home Straight was unable to make up any ground.
